Do you or your Thai girlfriend, boyfriend or friend need a Visa to Schengen or other parts of Europe such as England, Scotland or Ireland, or maybe to Australia etc., then you or your friend can apply at an embassy or consulate in Bangkok.
Mostly the Thai applicant will apply for a Visitor Visa - outside Schengen called a Spouse Visa, Fiancee Visa (Fiancée Visa or Fiancé Visa), K1 Visa, K2 Visa or K3 Visa etc. etc. - commonly called a Tourist Visas.
The required documents varies from country to country, even inside the Schengen area, and some embassies just need a scan or fax-print and other an original over even a verified original.
Besides the Visa application from the Thai person and often an interview, the embassy may need a (unpaid) flight reservation, a travel insurance, an invitation and most likely a guarantee from the abroad invitor etc.
Mostly the embassy will reject a Visa application, if the invitor and the applicant have not meet each other before, therefor some evidence may help.
However, it can be a hassle to apply for a Visa, if the invitor stays abroad and the Thai person somewhere in Thailand, or even if the invitor is on holiday in Thailand, because all those required papers have to be ordinated - and sometimes there will be a smaller or bigger language problem which may lead to misunderstandings and thus it can delay the application or even a rejection (refusal).
Other times the Visa applicant and the invitor just want it easy and thus are “outsourcing” the paper work to a consultancy (sometimes called a Visa Agent).
