How to get Visa to Europe / Schengen or Australia for a Thai

I will explain a bit about how to abtain a Visa to Europe / Schengen or Australia (such as e.g. a Tourist Visa, Marriage Visa, Visitor Visa, Fiancee Visa etc.):
  • Maybe you are a Thai who need or want to go abroad for work, study or vacation - or to visit a boyfriend or husband.
  • Maybe you are a Westerner who have meet a Thai girl, or she is your wife already, and now you want her to visit you in your home country.
  • Or maybe you are a Westerner who have not meet a Thai lady yet, but want to and thus want to be prepared.

Visa to West
First, you (the Thai person) have to evaluate the whole situation. Where do you want to go, how and why? - There are many kinds of Visa, and and people tend to mix them together. Besides that, Schengen, England, USA and Australia are not using the same Visa descriptions.

Tourist Visa is the easy one (if you have enough money), but mostly you need to show a hotel booking, travel insurance, reservation of an air ticket and sufficiency of funds in your bank-account in Thailand. Some counties need even more evidence.

Visa for Study or Work is also "easy", if your are enrolled at e.g. an university (and have enough funds in your account), or if you have got a job already - some countries have a green card system for e.g. younger people with a bachelor degree. Otherwise their may be some conditions before you can get a work permit and visa, which can be a certain salary or a special job, where their are not enough workers on the local labor market.

An Au-pair Visa is also a solution, but requires certain language knowledge etc.

Many Thais are using a Visitor Visa, Marriage Visa or Fiancee Visa (depends on the country, but this is not a Tourist Visa) - a Visitor Visa requires that you are or can be invited by a local citizens over there, e.g. a friend, boyfriend or husband (a so-called sponsor).

You may need to prepare documents such as:
  • A travel health insurance
  • An air ticket reservation
  • A visa application
  • An invitation from your sponsor
  • Evidence of sufficiency of funds in your account and/or a formal pledge by your sponsor
  • Proof that you know the sponsor in reality and not just virtual
  • Most countries require an interview at the embassy
  • Some embassies require that you make an appointment in advance
  • Etc.
